Disa has begun issuing the new version of DMCC-S to SMB PEDs and first-generation DMCC S users and expects to have 3,000 DMCC S users by the second quarter of fiscal 2016, three times more than the current number, according to Rice. DMCC-S, now in version 2.0.5, replaces the Secure Mobile Environment Portable Electronic Device (SME PED) system that was first released in 2008 and will shut down disa on July 30. With the launch of the service, DISA also introduces a new device with better graphics and sound quality as well as a longer battery life.
